Counselors Notes: Application Filing Deadline Extended for Fire Victims
Given the challenging situation facing many Southern California families following October's catastrophic wildfires, the University of California will accept undergraduate applications for fall 2008 until Dec. 14 from students who are unable to apply during the priority filing period.
Applications received after the Nov. 30 deadline will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Before they can proceed to Step 1, online applicants will have to check a box indicating they are filing late because of circumstances brought on by the fires. For their applications to be considered on time, students must also briefly explain in the Additional Comments section of the Personal Statement how the fires prevented them from filing by the deadline.
Applicants who have questions should contact the UC Undergraduate Application Processing Service at (800) 523-2048 or ucinfo@ucapplication.net . There is no need to contact campus admissions offices.
While the University prefers online applications, students may file paper applications, which they can download from:
www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/download .
Applicants without Internet access can request an application by calling the processing service.
Applicants who use paper applications also must include in the Additional Comments section a brief explanation of how the fire affected their ability to apply by Nov. 30.
To be considered on time, paper applications must be postmarked by Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 and sent to the UC Undergraduate Application Processing Service, P.O. Box 4010, Concord, CA 94524-4010.
