SCHOOL WISDOM OF THE DAY: Just about anyone can pass every class at high school. It’s simple: go to class regularly, and do the work. There is no mystery to it! (Radford)

ATTENTION CSF APPLICANTS: This week you are getting your goldenrod slip of paper to QUALIFY you for this semester of CSF. Take it to the ASB Office and pay your $10.00. You have until February 29 to get those payments in. KEEP IN MIND: Some students may be getting a DISQUALIFYING goldenrod piece of paper. (Kaine)

ATTENTION LADY LANCERS: Please return permission slips for the Adelante Mujer Conference to Mrs. Harken in the Counseling Office by February 26th. (Harken)

HEY LANCERS! Tickets for the annual girl’s league dance are on sale for $40.00 with an ASB card and $45.00 without an ASB card. The dance is on March 1st at the Bahia Resort Hotel on Mission Bay from 7:00pm to 11:30pm. Clear your Saturday schools and buy your tickets now. They are going fast. (Palmer)

**************SCHOLARSHIPS / COLLEGE************

ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES: The San Diego Zoo is offering a Science Exploratory Internship to start in the fall of 2008 or the winter of 2009. Fantastic opportunity. You would get a real-world look at biology-based and conservation jobs at the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park. You need to have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Must demonstrate interests in science, conservation, and community through extra-curricular activities. You will have to commit to 7 weeks of after-school sessions (3:00 to 5:00) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Pick up an application from Ms. Gerlack in the counseling center.

ATTENTION JUNIORS: Pepperdine University is offering it's annual Youth Citizenship Seminar for 5 days this summer. You will not need to pay for room, meals, tuition and materials. Only for transportation up and back and spending money. This is an incredible opportunity. The program is designed to stir new interest and even greater passion and understanding for this country. Through inspiring presentations, interactive workshops, unique break-out sessions and one-on-one communication with world renowned speaks and leaders from all walks of life. Pepperdine is looking for a wide variety of leadership strengths: ASB, clubs, athletic, musical, academic, theatrical. They would like 2 guys and 2 ladies. See Ms. Gerlack in the counseling center to sign up.

ATTENTION SENIORS: If you are of Hispanic descent and strong in academics, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation is offering scholarships from $1000 to $8000. Pick up a scholarship list because you need to apply on line.

ATTENTION SENIORS: If you are of Hispanic descent and have a minimum GPA of 3.0, scholarships are being awarded from $500 to $5000. The scholarship is looking for "First in My Family" to attend college.

ATTENTION SENIORS: Great opportunity for Hispanic students in our district. The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is offering 8 $1000 scholarships. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5

ATTENTION SENIORS OF FILIPINO/FILIPINA DESCENT: If you have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have applied to a 4 year college/university pick up this application. It is for students in our district. Scholarships worth from $100 to $500.

ATTENTION STUDENTS: If you are going to be 16 by June 9, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and absolutely LOVE science, BIOCOM is offering a Life Sciences Summer Institute program. It is an 8 week program. The first week is a non-paid pre-internship followed by a paid 7 week internship. Students learn how to formulate and test hypotheses, prepare experiments, and draw conclusions from those experiments. Almost forgot, you must have taken biology and chemistry. See Ms. Gerlack for a brochure. She's in the counseling center. :)

ATTENTION SENIORS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN DESCENT: If you have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have financial need, the "American Dream Scholarship Program" is offering scholarships from $500 to $5000. Pick up a scholarship list as the website is on it.

ATTENTION SENIORS: If you are 18 or soon to be, this is a fantastic opportunity for you. The city of Chula Vista is offering an opportunity for a student to travel to Odawara, Japan for 2 weeks. You would live with a Japanese family. After that the Japanese student will come to the US and spend 2 weeks with you. While you are in Japan you will be doing volunteer work, attending city council, sightseeing, etc. You will have prepared a presentation on your hometown of Chula Vista. If interested, see Ms. Gerlack in the counseling center for an application.

ATTENTION STUDENTS: BIOCOM is offering its Life Sciences Summer Institute. Great opportunity. This is an 8 week program. One week is a non-paid internship and the next 7 weeks you are paid. You will learn how to formulate and test hypotheses, prepare experiments, and draw conclusions from those experiements. You must be 16 as of June 9, 2008, and must have a 3.0. And have successfully completed biology and chemistry. See Ms.Gerlack for an application.
