STUDENT SECTION
SCHOOL WISDOM OF THE DAY: Homework requiring logic, such as algebra or geometry, should be studied in the early morning hours when your mind is more able to do critical thinking. (Radford)
ATTENTION SENIORS: The deadline to turn in your community service hours is Thursday, May 22nd. Don't be late! Please turn in your verification forms to Ms. Gutierrez or to your Social Science teacher. (Harken)
SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE TOUR: Unfortunately the Southwestern Tour for May 7th has been cancelled. (Harken)
STUDENTS: If you are planning to work this summer, plan to attend the Career Expo on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Turning the Hearts Center, 345 5th Avenue, Chula Vista. Meet and apply with dozens of local recruiters including Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Knotts Soak City, Pasha Automotive Group, Sea World, and more! For more information, visit angelaw@workforce.org or call (619) 228-2976. (Di Stefano)
STUDENTS: At lunch all this week a table will be set up where you can buy a red bracelet in an effort to help children who are orphans due to AIDS in Africa. The bracelets are $2 and all proceeds go to Alicia Keyes' foundation called Keep a Child Alive. Your purchase will also make you eligible to win an autographed t-shirt from Alicia Keyes. Look for the Awareness About AIDS club at lunch all week to help out a great cause! (Radford)
STUDENTS: Summer job opportunity!!!! The San Diego KOA needs students for the summer. The wage is between $8.00 to $8.50 an hour. 3 different type of activities. 1) general duties such as supervising crafts, bingo, assisting with pancake breakfasts, etc 2) working the front desk, meaning taking reservations, registering incoming guests, etc. and 3) cabin cleaning - you know what that entails! Great experience, perfect hours, and at $8 bucks an hour, can't beat it. See Ms. Gerlack in the counseling office for a brochure. (Gerlack)
*************SCHOLARSHIPS / COLLEGE************
SENIORS: The Ecology Scholarship, which is worth $1000 for a Hilltop student based on a 3.5 GPA and community service is still available. Also the M & M scholarship for a Hilltop student with spirit and who will be attending SDSU is available. The last scholarship I have is the Madden scholarship. More than 1 will be given out for students attending Southwestern College in the fall. All you have to do is write a small essay on why you want that scholarship. Can not get any easier than that. The due date will be extended.
COLLEGE BOUND JUNIORS: Take time to attend an evening with a consortium of public universities on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the La Jolla Country Day School. Admission and financial aid information will be presented for Miami University, Binghamton University, Clemson University, University of Colorado-Boulder, and the University of Maryland-College Park. For more information, please visit www.muohio.edu/inmytown.(Di Stefano)

FACULTY SECTION
PLC TIDBIT OF THE DAY: Standardized tests are NOT the best method of improving instruction; identifying at-risk, gray area, or underachieving students; or giving feedback on individual student learning to parents, students and teachers. However, when used in combination with other forms of assessment, they do provide one more piece of the overall puzzle. (Radford)
REMINDER TO SPRING SPORT COACHES: You need to have your completed Coaching Verification Form submitted to Mr. Alvarado by Wed., May 7 to receive your coaching stipend in your June 30 pay warrant. Don’t delay. (S. Williams)
FACULTY: I replaced the Faculty scholarship sheet in your box. Every year we present a couple of students who are great kids but don't get any money with this recognition. If everyone gave $5 we would have enough for a few scholarships. I have received only 5 donations so far - and thank you to the 5 generous donors!!!! If you could return the green slip to me or my box sometime next week, that would be fantastic.(Gerlack)
TEACHERS: Textbook notices for students will be in your mailboxes on Thursday morning to distribute during period 2. NOTICES FOR SENIORS: There is a print out for each senior in your classroom. Due to computer problems there may be some seniors that don't get one. Any senior that does not get a print out may come to the library to get one (not during class time). NOTICES FOR ALL OTHER GRADES: Teachers, you will only have a list of students' loaned items. Please share this information by showing each student their textbook checkouts or by cutting each student's list and giving it to them. Next time we run textbook notices, each student will have an individual sheet listing their textbook checkouts. Again, do not send students during class time to get a copy of their textbook list for any reason. Thank you, Ms. R and Ms. Cuevas.
