STUDENT SECTION

SCHOOL WISDOM OF THE DAY: Because of peer pressure, some teenagers act as though they’ve read a warning a sign stating, “Beware, you COULD become a successful student.” This is one sign to ignore. (Radford)

FLAGS SENIORS: If by TODAY, May 14, you have not been notified about your status as a FLAGS graduate via a form to sign, please see Ms. Radford in room 1408 TODAY. If you do not receive a form to sign, then you are not on the list I will be submitting to the registrar for FLAGS designation on your diploma. (Radford)

SENIORS: The CSF Senior Banquet is on May 28th. You all received a goldenrod sheet of paper - Mr. Kaine needs that back with the names of the guests you are inviting to the dinner. Your guests names have to be on the list in order for them and yourself to attend. Please get this information back to Mr. Kaine before Wednesday this week. Thank you!

Some seniors received a blue sheet of paper that has to be returned to Mr. Kaine ASAP - in order for you to attend the CSF Senior Banquet on May 28th. (Kaine)

SENIORS: There will be a meeting for all seniors participating in the senior-faculty basketball game TODAY, Wednesday, May 14th in Room 707 during lunch.

BOOK FINES: Students an increased number of textbooks are being left outside, in teachers' classrooms, and in lockers without locks. Many of these books are being damaged. As of today, any lost textbook returned to the library will result in a $1.00 fine. Be responsible and take care of your textbooks; they are becoming very expensive.

CULTURAL FAIRE: If any students would like to sing, dance, or play an instrument for the talent portion of the multi cultural faire on May 22, please see Ms. Radford in room 1408 this week! Let's show off that Lancer talent at the school event of the year! (Radford)

JOB OPPORTUNITY FOR GRADUATING SENIORS: Approximately 15 positions will be available at the Chula Vista Elementary School District in the Warehouse and Grounds Department. The requirements are 1. You must be a high school graduate 2. You need a written letter of recommendation from your high school counselor 3.current Tuberculosis test and 4. Submit your application by 5:00p.m. on June 1, 2008. The salary is $10.81/hour. Applications are available in the Human Resources department at the CVESD. LANCER FOOTBALL PLAYERS: Spring ball starts on Monday May 19th. In order to receive your spirit pack you need to pay your deposit BEFORE May 19th. Also, you must have your clearance papers turned into the ASB before you can play!!! If you have any questions, stop by an see Coach Martinez in room 507. (Martinez)

**************SCHOLARSHIPS / COLLEGE**********
SENIOR MEN: If you will be attending UC Berkeley in the fall, apply for the Charlie Cords Memorial Scholarship. It is worth $2000. http://ducalifornia.org/scholarships

ALL GRADES: Two more scholarships. Apply on line. Both have the same website: http://www.scholarshipexperts.com/apply.htx Both scholarships involve writing a simple 250 word essay. The 2008 Do-Over Scholarship is worth $1000. The topic is "If you were given one 'do'over' , would you: (a) use it for yourself; (b) give it to another person; or (c) choose not to use it?" The Education Matters $5K Scholarship is worth $5000 and the topic is "What would you say to someone who thinks education doesn't matter, or that college is a waste of time and money?"

ALL GRADES: If you are currently enrolled in an art class, you can apply for this scholarship. It is the Unived Farm Workers (UFW) 1st Annual Poster Contest. It is due May 31. The theme this year is "Organizing is the solution!" First place is $1000.

STUDENTS: If you are between the ages of 15 - 18, the United States Youth Conservation Corps needs you! Jobs are available for $8.00 an hour; 40 hours a week. You will be doing hard physical work at the Tijuana Slough & San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuges. How can you beat that? Outdoors in the summer and being paid for it. FACULTY SECTION

PLC TIDBIT OF THE DAY: Systems thinking is a way of thinking and talking about the forces and interrelationships that shape the behavior of systems. Someone who is a systems thinker can see four levels operating at the same time: 1) events; 2) patterns of behavior; 3) systematic structures; 4) mental models. (Radford)

ATTENTION AP TEACHERS: Please help us get back AP textbooks as soon as possible. If you no longer will be using the textbooks notify your students to return it to the library. You may schedule a time if you would like to bring your classes in to return the textbooks; it takes less than 5 minutes and each student knows his/her book has been returned and if there are any damage charges. AP books will be issued for summer assignments beginning the week of June 2-6 so I need all AP books back no later than May 30th. Thank you. Ms. Riemenschneider
