Schedule Changes: 2003/2004

Policy regarding Schedule Changes: 2003/2004

The new state frameworks, which are tied to school-wide assessment, require that instruction begin on the first day of each semester. If a student changes his/her schedule two weeks into the semester, the student is already behind and thus results in a loss of learning. Therefore, we have changed our schedule change policy to promote academics at Hilltop High School.

Every effort has been made to inform students and parents of the schedule change policy below. Counselors discussed this policy at the Parent Nights held in March. In addition, counselors informed students of the policy during classroom presentations during pre-registration. Furthermore, students were reminded of the policy when they met individually with their counselor.

Credits are earned for a full 18-week semester: Student initiated schedule changes must be requested before the beginning of each semester. Therefore, student initiated requests will only be accommodated before the beginning of each semester. Once the semester begins, there will be no student initiated schedule changes.

Special Circumstances: 0-8 weeks: Changes may be made from one level to another within the same subject. The changes will ordinarily be from a higher level to a lower level. During this time period, a senior with adequate credits may drop an elective not needed for graduation, without penalty, by moving to a 5 period day.

After 8 weeks: Students transferring from one-subject to a different subject after 8 weeks will receive a semester "F" for the dropped subject (this includes any PE class). No scholarship grade or credit will be recorded for the new class.

The principal on an individual basis may grant an exception, should extenuating circumstances warrant it.
